Market Makers

Description of Market Makers

Description of Market Makers

According to the Gas Market Rules, AGCS has the possibility of introducing Market Makers to cover the demand for tertiary control reserve in the balance area Ost. Up to now, liquidity on the balancing energy market has been satisfactory and therefore no Market Makers have been committed as of yet.

The introduction of Market Makers involves considerable expenses and would sharply increase the costs of balancing energy and the clearing prices.

Ranking of Market Maker Bids in the Day-ahead Market

Ranking of Market Maker Bids in the Day-ahead Market

The energy prices stated in the bids made by Market Makers are ranked in the daily Merit Order List. The energy price may be changed by the Market Maker for this purpose, but may not exceed the maximum or minimum energy prices. By including Market Makers in the day-ahead market, it is assured that the bids of Market Makers are taken up if they are more attractive than those of regular bidders. Thus, the costs for the overall system are kept low. However, Market Makers are not given preference or discrimination versus other regular bidders in the day-ahead market.
